Association of Sociologists of Education of Nigeria (ASEN) aims to facilitate sociological research, teaching and communication on Nigerian, African and International issues , and to give sociology a voice in african affairs.
ASEN is an academic association of sociologists. It was established in 2007, following delibrations and consultations among sociologists from different Nigerian universities.
When our mentor, late Dr. Joseph Agbowuro who was also a sociologist of education called a meeting of all the sociologists of education to be held at the Faculty of Education lecture theatre of University of Jos. Although only very few members attended this maiden edition of the meeting of the organization, the few that attended decided to float the Nigerian Journal of Sociology of Education and Dr. C.0 Daramola now Prof C.O. Daramola was appointed the Editor-In-Chief Since 1993.
We have begun publishing the journal on a yearly basis, but the organization itself was yet to be born.
Another attempt was made in 2002 when some members in the field of sociology of Education were invited to Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, ljanikin, Ojo Lagos for another round of meetings, like that first meeting in Jos in 1992, only few members honoured the invitation.
As a result of poor attendance, those who attended the meeting were unable to launch the organization.
